Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Lab

The FLIM system at uOttawa is used for single-particle catalysis applications, for example to observe catalysis mediated by Au or Ag nanoparticles.  With single particle resolution detection techniques and advance photon counting technique, real time fluorescence images and fluorescence time traces can be easily recorded and analyzed. We plan to examine complex systems involving reactions mediated by surface plasmon picosecond laser excitation.  The recent addition of total internal reflection microscopy (TIRFM) will allow us to explore a very thin region of a sample, usually less than 200 nm.
