BASIC PLOT
A rash of strange occurrences leads the Doctor to believe another group of Silurians is awakening. Liz Shaw joins forces with a reporter to investigate reports of mysterious cave men, while the Brigadier struggles with reduced funding for UNIT and the break-up of his first marriage.

"It's an old Tibetan trick. It slows your metabolic rate right down to the bare minimum." The Doctor also uses this trick in Terror of the Zygons.

Pg 213 "Here I am in your mind, your memories, and yet I'm holding my Triacteon Zeiton Regulator and it's fixed. Ever since I was exiled here, the TZR has needed repair, but I've never managed it. [...] Thank you, Doctor Shaw. When we get back, I now know how to repair it." Presumably this device regulares the flow of Zeiton 7, which we hear about in Vengeance on Varos. It may also be the piece of equipment that Jo destroys at the beginning of Terror of the Autons, as it there appears then to have been a breakthrough in his continuing work to escape his exile.

IN SUMMARY - Robert Smith?
I liked this book. I liked it a lot better when it was called Who Killed Kennedy, but that's by the by. There's an attempt to provoke atmosphere by simply drowning the book in early Pertwee continuity and hoping that'll pass muster... and oddly enough it pretty much does. The hybrid Silurians are a fun idea, the Brigadier's marriage breakdown is genuinely touching and there's a lot of good work done with Liz in the first of her multiple departures. The book's internal continuity leaks all over the place, but otherwise this is passable enough fare, with a few moments that really stand out.
