Bio

Yen grew up at the heart of the nation’s capital in Ottawa. She always had the curiosity that carried her towards a career in science: How do things work? What is the mechanism behind this? What are the effects and consequences? Naturally, it was no surprise when she joined the Chan Lab to study the toxicity of mercury. Her adventures in the Chan lab introduced her to the fascinating world of toxicology, environmental health, and human health risk assessment. Yen completed her BSc. Honours in Biochemistry at the University of Ottawa in 2016, and remained a contributor to research in toxicology.

Years and months passed, and Yen still crosses path with Dr. Chan. Yen was an active participant for two consecutive cohorts in the CREATE-REACT training program. She was delighted to see Dr. Chan again in his Toxicology and Regulation course for graduate students in the Chemical and Environmental Toxicology Program. At present (2018), Yen is working to modernize genetic toxicity testing; her thesis focuses on applying and examining the utility of (Q)SAR in integrated hazard assessment strategies for data-poor chemicals in Canada.

When she is not researching, you can find Yen somewhere with her camera - at the historic sites in the Ottawa-Gatineau area.
