The following is an Equity, Diversity and
Inclusion Statement (EDI) for my laboratory that was modified from the
original adopted by the Canadian Botanical Association (CBA) when I was
President from 2018-2020. The original CBA statement, my support for that
statement, and some initial statistics on CBA awards and gender that were
published in the CBA Bulletin (volume 52[2], pages 15-17) are also
given below.
Equity,
Diversity and Inclusion Statement
As a supervisor, I am committed to fostering a
culture of inclusivity and equity within my laboratory. I strongly
encourage interested students to join my laboratory regardless of their
gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality,
disability, religion, or age. Moreover, I strongly believe research and
outreach must support all people and that our diversity includes LGBTQS2+
and BIPOC from Canada and around the world. I acknowledge that the members
of my laboratory should represent the reality of Canada as a diverse,
multicultural, and inclusive community and I recognise that there are
different ways of knowing. I believe in reconciliation and a renewal of our
relationship with Indigenous peoples that is based on a recognition of
rights, respect, and partnership.
