Research

I am interested in the evolution of multigene families, particularly

1. the concerted evolution of genes encoding 5S ribosomal RNA,
2. the characteristics and effects of gene conversions between members of multigene families,
3. the evolution of processed pseudogenes and
4. the evolution of the gene responsible for the synthesis of vitamin C (the gene encoding L-gulono-γ-lactone oxidase) that has "resuscitated" several times during the evolution of vertebrates.
