Expanding Undergraduate Research Training. In 2004, as Chair of the CSC Inorganic Division, commissioned the Inorganic Chemistry Exchange (ICE) program, with the goals of increasing the visibility of inorganic chemistry among undergraduates, attracting talented students into graduate research in inorganic chemistry, and reinforcing connections between inorganic research groups across Canada. ICE gives highly motivated undergraduates the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research at universities across the country, and brings them together to present their results at the end of the summer. Now in its fifth year, ICE has involved nearly 30 undergraduates and 16 faculty at 12 institutions; 9 of the 11 ICE alumni to matriculate so far are pursuing graduate research in chemistry.
