Random fiber gratings for sensor and fiber laser applications

Design and fabrication of random fiber gratings for distributed sensor, random fiber laser and fiber laser sensor applications.

Research and development of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs)

Design and fabrication of FBGs with complicated structure (chirped, apodized, superimposed, phase shifted etc.) for applications in fiber lasers, fiber sensors and optical communication systems.

Birefringence in FBGs

Examination of laser induced birefringence; spectral polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and polarization dependent loss (PDL) in gratings; PMD and PDL compensations using fiber gratings; fabrication of gratings with ultra low birefringence.

Properties and system impacts of polarization effects in fiber optic communication systems

The interaction between PMD and PDL/G; the interaction between higher order PMD and frequency chirp; PMD and PDL induced power penalty in high data rate optical systems.
