Work related to Cratonization of Canadian Shield

I am interested in late Archean igneous rocks that were emplaced during the final stage of the cratonization of the Canadian Shield. They will tell us how the Shield was produced.

In addition, many of these igneous rocks are associated with PGE and gold mineralization. Therefore, our studies are pertinent to understanding the geological settings for the mineralization.

Octavia Bath examined the young sediments, < 2700 Ma, in the North Caribou greenstone belt which is made up of ~ 3.0 Ga volcano sedimentary rocks

Amanda Van Lankvelt examined the ages and petrogenesis of granitoids external to the North Caribou greenstone belt.

Jason Duff studied the supracrustal rocks of the North Caribou greenstone belt, which hosts the Musselwhite gold mine. The North Caribou belt is considered to be the nucleus of the western Superior Province.

John Hinchey studied the 2680 Ma Lac des Iles ultramafic-mafic igneous complex, which hosts the palladium mine near Thunder Bay.

Neil Pettigrew examined PGE mineralized mafic-ultramafic intrusions (2680 Ma) in the Quetico subprovince and also in the southern Uchi subprovince.

Birgitte Lassen studied carbonate-bearing alkaline intrusions (2680 Ma) in the Quetico metasedimentary belt.
