What’s new?
Congratulations to Muriel Jatar who successfully defended her M.Sc. thesis on March 18th 2013. Muriel looked at the effects of dietary Se on 2 types of invertebrates.
Congratulations to Elif Tekin who successfully defended her M.Sc. thesis on January 13th 2013. Elif investigated the presence of anammox bacteria in contaminated groundwaters.
Congratulations to Mélanie Cousineau who successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis on Dec. 14th 2012. Mélanie used sulfur isotopes to answer 2 important questions. How is sulfur fractionated by acid-tolerant sulfate reducing bacteria during early growth? and can sulfur isotopes discriminate between the 2 events leading to the dinosaur extinction.
Welcome to Alyssa Dunbar, Ed Bryson and Kristina Boros who just joined my research group as new M.Sc. students (Fall 2012). Also, welcome to Sarina Cotroneo and Tarek Najem who are doing their 4th-year EVS thesis with me (2012-2013).
Congratulations to Paul Beddoes who successfully defended his M.Sc. thesis on July 29th 2011. Paul investigated the microbial ecology of iron and arsenic reducers in mine tailings and their activity in microcosms experiments
Kristen Feige successfully defended her M.Sc. thesis on Dec. 17th 2010. Kristen investigated the solid and aqueous geochemistry of acid rock drainage in a stream located in the Yukon. Kristen was co-supervised by myself and Paul Gammon at the GSC.
Congratulations to Sarah Harrison who successfully defended her M.Sc. thesis on Oct. 8th 2010. Sarah looked at the relationship between land use and Hg and MeHg concentrations. She was co-supervised by myself and Dr. Alexandre Poulain.
Congratulations to Fedora Gonzalez who successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis on Sept. 9th. 2010. Fedora investigated the magnetic properties of nano particles of iron oxides. She was co-supervised by myself and Prof. Lamarche.
Congratulations to Alexandre Ibrahim who successfully defended his M.Sc. thesis on July 21st 2010. Alex investigated the biogeochemical factors controlling the formation biogenic iron oxides (BIOS) in a natural wetland.
Congratulations to Luyza Avramescu who successfully defended her Ph. D. thesis on May 3rd 2010. Using Hg and MeHg tracers, Luyza demonstrated that sulfate reducers and methanogenes are important players in Hg methylation and demethylation in natural sediments.
