Chemistry at uOttawa
The Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences of the University of Ottawa is one of the best in Canada. Two winners of the prestigious Herzberg Gold Medal for Science and Engineering, professors Tito Scaiano and Howard Alper, are in our department. The Faculty of Science ranks among the best in Canada in terms of faculty research grants. For students seeking superior undergraduate training in chemistry and medicinal chemistry, our department represents a judicious choice.
We offer undergraduate and graduate programs with a variety of options including a strong Co-op program. Students in the Co-op program get placement opportunities in top research institutions, university labs and research intensive companies throughout Canada, the US and Europe. Our graduate programs are particularly strong and students may study towards Masters or Doctorate degrees. Students may pass directly to the Ph.D. program without writing a Masters thesis, saving as much as a year of study in comparison with other institutions.
