There will be an informal opening reception on Sunday,
August 7 from 7:00-9:00pm in the Lord Nelson Hotel. The scientific programme starts on
Monday, August 8. On the afternoon of Wednesday,
August 10, there will be an excursion.
Excursion and conference dinner
The excursion will take place in the afternoon on August 10. |
There will be a choice of two excursions:
- McNabs island .
This will involve a boat ride to McNab's Island, a couple of hours on the island with the possibility of hiking or swimming and then a boat ride back to the Halifax side of the harbour. There is only limited space on the boats and we need to reserve these well in advance, so if you are interested in this option, please let us know as soon as possible. We will assign seats on the boats on a first-come-first-served basis and once they are gone they are gone.
- An exploration of the Halifax Harbour by ferry: this will involve a ferry ride from Halifax to one of the Dartmouth ferry terminals, then a walk along the harbour on the Dartmouth side with a treat at one of our unique coffee and croissant restaurants and then a ferry ride back to Halifax via the other ferry line. If there is time the walk can be continued on the Halifax side.
- A guided tour of the Halifax citadel with a great view of the city and some rather interesting historical information. The Citadel is not operated like a museum, but rather like a live enactment. This tour will be followed by a visit to the Public Gardens.
The conference dinner takes place on Thursday, at the Shore Club. The dinner features Nova Scotia lobster (for vegetarians or those who do not like lobster alternatives will be offered). Transportation from campus to the Shore Club
by bus will be arranged.
Participants bringing a guest to the dinner will be asked to pay separately for their guest ($75 for the dinner, $90
for dinner with wine). Payment can be made in person to the organizers at the beginning of the meeting, or through the
eventbrite registration page.
