Manuel Lafond
I am a Postdoc at the University of Ottawa, where I work in the laboratory of Dr. David Sankoff. My main areas of research are bioinformatics, parallel and distributed computing, algorithms (mostly approximation algorithms and fixed-parameter tractability) and graph theory. I am especially fond of research projects that reside at the intersection of these topics (these do exist!).

My research in bioinformatics focuses on distinguishing orthologous genes from paralogous genes. I am also interested in phylogeny and algorithms for the inference of evolutionary histories. In the field of distributed computing, I have looked at the problem of space optimization in communication networks, and at various problems for the analysis of social networks.
