Opportunities

• I am currently accepting new students (honours projects, M.Sc., and Ph.D.). If you are interested, send me a copy of your C.V. and a brief statement of your research interests. While external funding is not a prerequisite, students are strongly encouraged to apply to the relevant agencies. Although uOttawa is a bilingual institution (French and English), knowledge of French is not required to work in my lab, nor is it necessary for full participant in all aspects of the graduate program.

The city of Ottawa is a multicultural wonder, with many of the top museums and galleries in the country. The French influence makes for a vibrant atmosphere, with great food and good drinks. The lack of heavy industry, the beauty of the Ottawa and Rideau rivers, the quaintness of the canal, and the proximity of the Gatineau Hills, all combine to provide an ideal natural environment as well. Although the winters are cold, if you embrace all they have to offer (including skating to work along the canal, Winterlude, and skiing in the Gatineaus), it can become a favoured time of the year. (The summers are also warm!)

The Department of Biology has growing strengths in Ecology and Evolution and provides a dynamic and supportive learning environment. The proximity of other research institutions (Carleton University is also in Ottawa, and McGill in Montreal and Queens in Kingston are both within 2 hours drive) also makes for an ideal collaborative environment.
