Glenn Milne (group
leader). Glenn has an
honours degree in Geophysics from the University of Edinburgh and an
MSc and PhD in Geophysics from the University of Toronto. He came to
Ottawa from Durham University in May 2008. Although the "head honcho"
he's not too strict and doesn't work group members
too hard
(right guys?). He is known for his laid-back demeanor, hybrid
Scottish-Canadian accent and being a bit of a "light weight" in the pub.

Sarah Bradley (PhD
student). Sarah has an MSci
in Geophysics from Durham
University.
She is
developing an improved model of glacial isostatic adjustment for the
British Isles and Ireland.
She is using both sea-level observations (near-field and far-field) and
GPS observations to improve models of British-Irish ice sheet evolution
and regional sub-surface Earth structure. Sarah is known for her love
of animals (she has had a number of pets over the years including degus
and cats) and the rate at which she can walk and talk. Sarah is jointly
supervised by Prof. Ian Shennan, Durham University,
UK.
Matthew Simpson (PhD
student). Matt has an honours
degree in Geophysics from the University of
Liverpool. For his PhD research Matt has developed an improved
model of Greenland
ice sheet
evolution from the last glacial maximum (~20,000 years ago) to the
present. He has applied the model to interpret the growing number of
GPS measurements of land motion in Greenland
as well as to investigate the role of sea-level change on the early
deglacial evolution of the ice sheet. Matt is known for his ability to
never lose his cool (except when dealing with dodgy bus companies in
the US)
and eat lots while maintaining a slim figure. Matt is jointly
supervised by Prof. Antony Long, Durham University,
UK
and Prof. Philippe Huybrechts, Free University of Brussels, Belgium.

Pippa Whitehouse
(Postdoc). Pippa has an honours degree in
Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Geophysics
from the University of Oxford. She is working on developing an improved
model of glacial isostatic adjustment for Antarctica.
She will calibrate the model using geological observations of ice
extent and sea-level change as well as GPS observations of present-day
crustal motion. Pippa is known for her tremendous appetite which might
be (at least partly) due to her busy exercise schedule as a member of
the UK
orienteering squad. She is without doubt the fittest member of the
group. Pippa
is jointly supervised by Dr.
Mike Bentley, Durham
University, UK
and Dr. Matt King, University
of Newcastle,
UK.

Leanne Wake (PhD
student). Leanne has an MSci in Geophysics
from Durham University. She is also working on improving our
knowledge of Greenland
ice sheet
evolution with a focus on changes during the past few centuries. The
primary aim of her research is to better constrain the response of the
SW sector of the ice sheet to climate variability during the past ~500
years using high resolution geological records of sea-level change.
Leanne is known for her devoted allegiance to Blyth Spartans - "the
most famous non-league football/soccer team in the world" -
the
music of Johnny Cash, and her ability to keep up with heavy drinking
lads from the North East of England (or anywhere for that matter).
Leanne is jointly supervised by Prof. Antony Long, Durham University,
UK and
Prof. Philippe Huybrechts, Free University of Brussels, Belgium.
