The first class is Thursday, September 9. The first DGD is Wednesday, September 15.
Sep 13: The course packet problem has (hopefully) been fixed. The issue is that reprography had the packet printed but the course code was not appearing on their list. They say that the issue has been resolved (for those ordering online, the course code should appear in the online list this afternoon). In any case, if you know that the packet is in Bin C40, you should be able to get it.
Sep 14: An error in Example 2.7 of the lecture notes has been corrected.
Sep 22: Assignment 1 was handed back in today's DGD. If you did not collect your assignment, you can do so during office hours.
Sep 27: Students who are finding the course difficult and are interested in hiring a private tutor can take advantage of the tutor referral service of the Peer Help Centre.
Sep 30: There will be no office hours the week of October 4–8 since the professor will be out of town. However, students may ask questions by email. Classes and the the DGD will still take place as usual (taught by another professor).
Oct 13: Assignment 2 was handed back in today's DGD. If you did not collect your assignment, you can do so during office hours.
Oct 21: Assignment 4 is now posted. Solutions to the midterm have been posted on the exams page (in the table of old exams).
Oct 22: There will be no office hours on Wednesday, October 27. If you were planning to come to these office hours, you can email the professor to arrange a time to meet on Thursday, October 28.
Oct 24: Note that December 8 is a Monday schedule. Therefore, there will be class at 8:30am on December 8.
Oct 29: There will be no office hours on Wednesday, November 3. Instead, extra office hours will take place on Tuesday, November 2, 11:00am–12:00pm. The DGD will take place on Wednesday as usual.
Nov 7: There will be a talk by Phil Scott, aimed at undergraduates on LaTeX, the program used to typeset most mathematics (for instance, the notes of this course are written using LaTeX) which is freely available. The talk is at 2:30pm, Thursday, November 11 in KED B005.
Nov 9: Assignment 5 has now been posted.
Nov 22: Assignment 6 has now been posted.
Nov 26: Some minor adjustments have been made to Assignment 6: point values have been added for each question and a small clarification has been added to Question 4 (the scalars should not be all zero).
Dec 6: This Wednesday, December 8, will be a Monday schedule. So there will be class at 8:30am and office hours 10-11am.
Dec 8: Exam viewing times will be posted here in approximately one week. Students who wish to view their final exam should come to the professor's office during these times. In particular, it is important that any student wishing to view their exam do so before January 3rd since the professor will be away on sabbatical beginning January 4th.
Dec 12: Solutions to the final exam have now been posted on the exams page (in the table of old exams).
Dec 16: Unofficial final grades have now been posted on Virtual Campus. Students who wish to view their final exams should come by the professor's office between 1pm and 2pm on Monday, January 3rd. Since the university is officially closed on that date, the front door to the building may be locked. If this is the case, call the professor's office at 613-562-5800, extension 3513, and he will come down to let you in. Please note that the professor is leaving January 4th for sabbatical leave and so will not be around to show students their exam after this exam viewing period on January 3rd.
